Nov. 19, 2012 - PRLog -- Despite failing to make the cut for inclusion in this summers Olympic games, Netball is enjoying a resurgence in popularity in the UK at the moment and a series of high profile media coverage on Radio 1 and ITV's "The Only Way is Essex" has encouraged young professionals to dust off their bibs and flock to netball courts across the country.

Research conducted by Go Mammoth has shown that Netball is no longer the preserve of school PE lessons, finding include:

- 274,320 people in the UK list Netball as a hobby
- 54% of UK netball fans are aged 18-40*
- 13% are men and of these nearly half are single & heterosexual*
- 85% of male players in the UK are in England*

*according to information provided on their Facebook profiles

Luke Mohr, founder of Go Mammoth netball in London explained that his netball leagues have become oversubscribed in the past 12 months;

"In the last year (and especially since the Olympics) we've seen all our sports increase in popularity and netball continues to be one of the highest demand for us. So much so we've opened 7new leagues in the last year and will be opening 3 more in the coming season."

Go Mammoth currently run 2 mixed netball leagues but as Mohr goes on to explain, demand for the men's game is growing;

"When we first ran the mixed leagues we weren't sure how it would go down with the men or the ladies but the leagues have been really well received and the level of play is great. Who knows, in the future we might be running men's only leagues!"

Notes for editors

GO Mammoth organises leagues every night of the week at over 20 venues throughout London, across nine different team sports, from traditional Football, Basketball and Netball to less mainstream sports such as Dodgeball, Softball and Ultimate Frisbee. The emphasis is on having fun, rather than high levels of competitiveness. The post-match drinks deals and regular club-wide social events are almost as infamous as the sports leagues themselves. Anyone over eighteen can enter a league either individually or as a team.
