Jan. 7, 2013 - PRLog -- In 2012, the Council of Engineering & Scientific Specialty Boards (CESB) and the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) released a historic consensus document about credentials for engineers and allied professionals.

The document, aptly named Engineering Credentials, describes the role of licenses, certifications, and the relationship between the two.  It also discusses the appropriate uses of engineering credentials as well as their benefits to consumers, employers, and practitioners.

CESB and NSPE published the document due to the various credentials currently available for engineers and allied professionals. The continued increase in the number of these credentials has at times created confusion for practitioners and consumers alike. Some of the confusion is due to a lack of understanding about credentials, their benefits and limitations, and credentialing terminology. To address these needs, Engineering Credentials is offered as an informative guide to engineers and the general public.

“Last week, CESB published an online video about this important new document,” stated William Anderson, P.E., DEE, Executive Director at CESB. “Utilizing online video technology allows us to reach more people to inform them of this new document that can be downloaded at no charge from the CESB website.”

Engineering Credentials provides the reader with facts about credentials, licenses, and accredited certifications.  The document describes the benefits to credentialed practitioners, their employers, and consumers of practitioners’ services.
