Presence of Mercury In Anti-Aging Products, Experts Revealed

According to the agency, some face creams that are manufactured abroad and then sold in the USA contain mercury. There was a report given at the FDA regarding a 39 year-old woman who had presence of mercury in her body. The amount was a hundred times more than the average amount. She has also diagnosed of showing symptoms of mercury poisoning.

For about three years both this woman and her husband was reported to have been using an unlabeled mercury-containing cream bought from Mexico. There were also several other family members who were showing an elevated amount of mercury. Other states like Virginia, Maryland and New York have also reported the same cases. This indicates the presence of mercury containing products in the country.

“Make sure there is no mercury content in your skin lightener, anti-aging treatment or acne remedy, or any product that claims to remove age spots, freckles, blemishes and wrinkles,” says some experts from FDA. “These products are frequently sold online and in Latino, Asian, African or Middle Eastern neighborhoods. Many of these products enter the United States through international mail and personal baggage.”

“There are things that you can do avoid these things,” another expert revealed. “Check the label of a certain anti-aging product and see there are words like ‘mercurous chloride,’ ‘calomel,’ ‘mercuric,’ ‘mercurio,’ and/or ‘mercury’. Immediately stop using these products.”

“Do not use the product if it has no label on it,” another expert explained. “Also, don’t ever use products that are labeled in other languages unless there’s also English in the label.” They also added that “if you suspect that you’re using a product with mercury, stop it immediately. Wash your hands and other parts of the body that had contact with the product. Then, contact your health care professional or medical clinic for some help.”

In the past few years, FDA has shown more than 35 products containing too much mercury. That’s the reason why it’s very important that consumers as well as the sellers have an idea with regards to the dangers and mercury poisoning that are associated with the products.
