Wang Family Compound：A Traditional Building in China

Jan. 15, 2013 - PRLog -- Wang’s Compound is located in Jingsheng Town, Lingshi County, 35km from Pingyao ancient city and 140km from Taiyuan city. Wang Family Compound is one of largest luxurious residential complexes, representing Chinese distinctive architectural style of Ming and Qing Dynasty. It is built during 1762-1811 by the descendants of the Wang Family, one of the Four Families of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) in Shanxi Province.

The compound occupied a total area of 150,000 square meters of which 45,000 square meters (about 53,820 square yards) has been declares as a provincial protective cultural relic. There are 231 courtyards and 2,078 houses in total. It is not only an example of residential architecture, but also a museum of architectural art.

The sculptures of stone, wood and brick can be found everywhere in the compound; each of them is vivid and exquisite. Some famed part to visit in the compound are Gaojia Ya, Hongmen Bao (Hongmen Castle) and Chongning Bao (Chongning Castle), etc. Due to the spacious architectures and artistic decorations, Wnag’s compound is also regarded as the Forbidden city of Shanxi province.

In history, Wang people’s wealth is collected from land farming, then expanded into trading business and become local officials eventually. The compound was firstly built in mid 1600s, and most architecture adopts the style of Qing dynasty. On August 18th of ever year, Tourism festival is held in the compound with many traditional activities and interesting to experience.
