By: Selah Haki When asked about her interest in Outsider art, Branch responded, “I really knew nothing about this genre, but have a great mentor, George Viener, who has been active in the field for over 40 years. Learning from someone who has that much enthusiasm makes learning electric. He liked to have close personal ties with our artists which helped my understanding as well.” Branch received her M.F.A. in Visual Studies at The State University of New York (SUNY) and has had noted experience with studio direction and community activism, including her involvement with One Million Bones, in Berks County, PA. “One Million Bones is a national project bringing attention to the atrocity of genocide. Locally a few artists approached me to conduct Public Relations for their effort. The bones travel this Spring to The Mall in Washington D.C” Branch stated in the interview. Wright is a Southern California native with a BA in Communications from California State University, Fullerton. She has written several books including “Raise the Red Teddy: A Single Mother’s Guide to Dating;” “The Hodaoa-Anibo Dictionary;” “50” and “A Crime And A Simplification of Something Sublime.” Last year her work was published by the literary magazine, Main Street Rag. Wright recently finished an artist residency in Chiang Mai, Thailand in December 2012 and will travel to Philadelphia next month to cover and exhibit with Circus Terminal, USA at Studio B. She will also be the announcer for the Black History Parade in Orange County, CA; held on February 2nd . Official interview with Branch on The Wrighter: http://www.thewrighteronline.com/ End
