Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Long Beach Alumnae Chapter 2013 Scholarship

Each year Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Long Beach Alumnae Chapter awards academic scholarships to graduating seniors in our service area. Applications are based on financial need, GPA, and school/community involvement.

Jan. 31, 2013 - PRLog -- Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was founded on January 13, 1913 by twenty-two collegiate women at Howard University. These students wanted to use their collective strength to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to persons in need.

The Long Beach Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated awards scholarships every year to outstanding high school seniors. Scholarship recipients are chosen not only for their outstanding scholarly achievements, but for their character, commitment to others and to the common good, and for their potential for leadership in whatever domains their careers may lead. Selection of recipients is to be made without discrimination as to race, sex, creed or national origin.

Scholarship recipients must meet the following criteria’s:

Graduating seniors in our service area (Long Beach, Lakewood, Signal Hill and Paramount) who will be attending a four year college/university or a community college (official proof of registration is required to receive scholarship).
Students currently enrolled in a community college who will be transferring to a four year institution in the fall preceding the scholarship year.
One graduating senior currently enrolled in a high school in our service area who will be attending a two year college is eligible for a book stipend.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote academic excellence; to provide scholarships; to provide support to the underserved; to educate and stimulate participation in the establishment of positive public policy; and to highlight issues and provide solutions for problems in communities.
