Feb. 22, 2013 - PRLog -- For the first time, authors who want to create and publish their own books can turn their manuscripts into finished, industry-standard, beautiful books that can be printed by leading print on demand suppliers.

"Today we change the way books are made by the new self-publishers who have been struggling with their word processing program for years," said Joel Friedlander, the book designer behind BookDesignTemplates.com.

"Let's face it," Friedlander continued, "programs like Microsoft Word function beautifully in an office, but when it comes to laying out a book, it can quickly become a nightmare."

For several years through industry events and articles on his popular indie publishing blog, TheBookDesigner.com, Joel has been trying to convince authors to leave their word processors behind. Now, he says, he's had a change of heart.

"People want to use the tools they already own and know," Friedlander said. "I realized that instead of fighting these do-it-yourself authors, I could help make those books better instead. That's what BookDesignTemplates.com is all about."

Complaints About Self-Published Books

One of the biggest complaints about self-published books is their lack of professionalism and that self-publishers don't know how to produce an industry-standard book.

By using the template approach, Friedlander says, authors can buy the completely pre-formatted book "container" and then simply add their own text.

At the time of launch there are six book designs authors can choose from, with prices starting at $37.

"Authors have spent countless frustrating hours trying to figure out how to add running heads that actually look like a real book in Microsoft Word," Friedlander said, "and how to get their page numbers, trim sizes and margins right. These templates solve all those problems, because they are already fully formatted."

Templates Take the Pain and Frustration Away, Make It Easy

Each template is built around a set of fonts to achieve book pages that will be clear and readable. The fonts are included in the template download along with an 18-page Formatting Guide that uses step by step instructions and screenshots to show buyers how to install and use the templates with Microsoft Word.

"I've spent hours judging self-published books for competitions and awards," said Friedlander, "and it always seems a shame to me to see the kinds of errors authors make with their books.

"There are books with the page numbers backwards, chapter openers with running heads, entire books set without hyphenation, the list goes on and on," he said. "After all the work authors put into their books, these templates are going to provide a quick and easy way to create a beautiful book that your readers will love," Friedlander explained.
