“Best practice #1: Break large project tasks up into daily tasks and schedule them on a planning calendar.

Actually allocate time every day for those tasks to be done. Then start every day with 15 minutes of planning. Typically, I come in an hour early, just so I can have my time to get quiet, plan, do things that I need to do, administrative tasks before everyone gets there.

Best practice #2: Start every day with at least fifteen minutes of planning.

If you’ll come in and start every day with at least 15 minutes of planning just to get yourself acclimated, again get things done before other people get there, that we find helps out a lot.

Best practice #3: Measure project progress for the day before.

So in your planning, go through and measure: What did I get done; what got completed; what got completed on time; what maybe needs to be carried over to the next day or maybe further out. Maybe you completed some things early, but maybe some things didn’t get completed that need to actually go on the schedule.”

The tips mentioned above made more than 200 tenured project managers realize the importance of planning ahead on the first day of the release; which rose to 570 after a week. Whitt – Bridges has been speaking in public bout project management for years already and this is a proof that she really knows how to deliver a powerful message even in the shortest of time given.
