ANCHORAGE, Alaska - March 25, 2013 - PRLog -- Award-winning children’s author and parenting expert Julia Cook, MS, will be the honored guest at a 'Meet and Greet' event sponsored by the Alaskan Autism Resource Center (AARC) on Thursday, March 28 from 9 - 11 a.m. at the BP Energy Center at 900 E. Benson Blvd. in Anchorage. Attendees will include state agency representatives, health professionals and others in the autism community.

She will also visit Barnes & Noble Anchorage on March 30 beginning at 11 a.m. to sign books, speak to parents and read to children. Her visit will be part of a larger book fair from which proceeds will be used to buy and distribute books on autism to libraries statewide. Cook will also be visiting schools around the state during the week, touching the lives of countless children.

Cook’s books have dealt with a variety of tough issues that children are faced with today – bullying, anxiety, anger management, divorce, and the list goes on. Her recent releases include Cell Phoney, dealing with cell phone addiction and etiquette, and Smarter than the Scoopers, which teaches kids to be safe from predators in a non-threatening way. Cook and her publisher, the National Center for Youth Issues, recently donated autographed copies of her book Grief is Like a Snowflake to each family affected by the Sandy Hook tragedy, as well as a case of the books with the accompanying activity books to all of the Newtown, Conn. schools.

Cook has presented in more than 800 schools across the country and regularly delivers keynote addresses at national education and counseling conferences. The goal behind all of Julia’s 45 published children’s books and efforts is to actively involve young people into her fun and creative stories and teach them to become lifelong problem solvers. Inspiration for her books comes from working with children and carefully listening to parents and teachers.

Cook’s books have been referenced in such publications as Parent’s Magazine, The New Yorker, The Chicago Tribune, Yahoo.com, dr.laura.com and babyzone.com has. She has also been featured on CNN’s HLN News, and several large metropolitan networks.
