By: Think Brown INK The Boulevard at The Capital Centre attracted over 200 kids and parents who stretched, jumped, jogged… with Nike Trainer Deanna Jefferson; LaToya Morton of MECKids.com; LaTonya Swann, winner of BET’s Born to Dance and owner of Seize the Dance Gym. The ‘edutainment’ “There was no better event to usher in spring, and the weather could not have been better. The event was a great excuse to get the kids outdoors and moving ...Literally,” Youth from Dreams Work, Inc. taught kids the importance of health through performing arts skits. Healthinista Tosh Patterson of Be Well, Eat Well, Live Well along with Recording Artist/Fitness Expert Green Tea and “Sherrella La Bella” of The Good Thick Project taught a healthy eating workshop. After that, the kids moved again and discussed what they learned in a trivia session led by W.O.W Radio’s Caribgem. If that weren’t enough to motivate the youth to get moving, 10-year-old Recording Artist Chi Chi Monet performed her new single, “Move,” which became the premise of Get Kids Movin! when the tour launched in November 2012. Breakthrough Recording Artist Reesa Renee hosted Get Kids Movin! while DJ Heat of WPGC 95.5 FM provided the tunes. Get Kids Movin! concluded with a kids fashion show presented by Sports Zone Elite and The Children’s Place. Celebrating the health and wellbeing of our children means we should always have conversations about what our kids eat and how they move which affects their success in school and in life,” said Community Organizer Courtney Bennett. “I recommend #GetKidsMovin because it was so refreshing to see so many parents from all different backgrounds with youth of all different ages learn, play, and move together." Ten-year-old Chi Chi Monet, a recording artist, cheerleader, gymnast and dancer grew frustrated with the alarming rates of childhood obesity among her peers. Armed with information from the Obama Administration's "Let's Move" initiative, she decided to create song called "Move" to inspire youth to be healthy. During the fall of 2012, Chi Chi joined forces with Sports Zone Elite and Think Brown INK to create a tour that would use creative and unique ways to reinforce a lifestyle of health. Building from her love for fashion, dance, music, performing arts and sports, she knew that an exciting program could help Mrs. Obama and other health advocates achieve a mission of fostering a generation of health-conscience children and young adults.
