Follow on Google News | Honda Will Sponsor and Participate in the 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill ClimbSeveral Honda vehicles will be fielded to tackle the famously challenging racecourse.
By: Motor Werks Honda of Barrington The 2013 race marks the first time that Honda has been a corporate sponsor of the event, which dates back to 1916 and is the second-oldest motorsport event in America. The race is held on a 12.42-mile course with a 156 turns; it begins at an elevation of 9,390 feet and ends at 14,110 feet, at the foot summit of Pikes Peak. The thin air has the effect not only of slowing drivers’ reflexes, but also of reducing engine power, making the course a true challenge and a worthy testing ground for new automotive technology. Honda will be fielding a variety of vehicles, including ATVs and motorcycles. Perhaps most exciting for everyday drivers, though, will be the presence of two seemingly normal cars on the racetrack: Honda CR-Z – This small sport hybrid represents the best of both worlds, giving drivers exceptional fuel economy and ample power, making for a truly engaging driving experience. And with a three-mode drive selector — allowing for Sport, Normal, and Econ modes — drivers can exercise full control over how they tackle the roadways. Honda Fit EV – An entirely electric version of Honda’s popular subcompact hatchback (http://www.motorwerkshonda.com/ Mike Accavitti, Senior Vice President of Automotive Operations for American Honda, said, “Pikes Peak presents us with a unique opportunity to showcase Honda’s diverse product lineup and to energize Honda fans around the world, as we work to further strengthen Honda’s presence in racing at all levels.” It’s not, in other words, about winning the race with every vehicle — it’s about showing that Honda’s vehicles are up to the task.
