Investigation Industry Celebrate 100 Years

WESTMINSTER, U.K. - May 1, 2013 - PRLog -- The Association of British Investigators  (ABI)     www.theabi.org.uk   is the oldest profession body in the world for private detectives. The Association began life in 1913 under the title “British Detectives Association”. In 1946 following the cessation of hostilities in the Second World War a second association representing investigators, then commonly described as Private Inquiry Agents or Private Detectives, was formed under the title The Association of British Detectives. In 1953 these two associations conjoined under the title The Association of British Detectives. In 1970 this association formed itself into the current body we have today.

Last  weekend they held their Annual General meeting in London where they were joined by the Council of International Investigators, (CII) www.cii2.org and the World Association of Detectives, (WAD) www.wad.net to celebrate their birthday.

There was a cocktail evening at the House of Lords Friday evening and a gala dinner at the Connaught Rooms where around 150 delegates attended.  

The WAD are holding their mid term meeting to coincide with the event and the CII are holding their European regional meeting. This is the first time that the ABI have held joint meetings with other organisations.

A number of CII members are sponsoredthe event at the house of Lords including WIS International www.wis-int.com CEO Roy Whitehouse who is a member of all three associations and past President and Chairman of the CII, www.cii2.org said “This was a great opportunity for so many investigators from around the world to get together and discuss different investigation methods in other countries. Being an international company we have dealings with many members of these organizations this was a great opportunity to meet and catch up on news and views”

WIS International have been established since 1983 and have been a member of the ABI for almost 20 years. Roy said, The ABI is a very professional association and is the leader in the UK regarding private detectives, they regularly advise government and are endorsed by law society of England and Wales as well as the Scottish Law Society, as we have offices in London and Portugal it is necessary to be a member of such an association that have a strong code of ethics and a discipline body, through this it brings responsibility to the profession and helps to stop cowboy PI’s”

All companies and individuals in the investigation industry in the UK should be members of the ABI this then allows them to show they are profession, responsible and act with the law.
