I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this award than Tom.” Horizons Savannah executive director Christy Edwards says, “Horizons is fortunate to have Tom on our board. We owe much of our success as an organization to his hard work and dedication to the mission of expanding opportunity to all students in our community. This was a well deserved honor, and Tom is one of the few throughout the Horizons network of 33 programs across the U.S. to ever take home this prestigious award.” Horizons Savannah board president Tom Oxnard says, “I’m honored to be chosen for this award, while I also acknowledge that scores of us on the board and the staff deserve credit for the success of the program. Horizons Savannah’s mission is so strong and important to the community, I am confident of its continued success." ### About Horizons Savannah Recognized as one of America’s best summer learning programs, Horizons Savannah at Savannah Country Day School and Bethesda Academy welcomes about 150 low-income, public elementary and middle school students each summer to a six-week summer enrichment program that helps prevent “summer slide”: the loss-of-learning that occurs during the summer. By providing a safe and nurturing environment, recreational and cultural activities, nutritious meals and snacks, caring professional teachers and creative, challenging instruction, we unlock a student’s potential to achieve. Last summer, students gained an average of three months’ growth in reading and four months’ growth in math.
