HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - May 13, 2013 - PRLog -- Mercedes-Benz has made its name by building opulent, high-performing driving machines, and anyone who gets behind the wheel of one of the German automaker’s vehicles can do so with the confidence that it will be equipped with cutting-edge technology. The team at Mercedes-Benz of Hoffman Estates (http://www.mercedeshoffman.com/index.htm) is pleased to announce that E-Class models will soon be available with SplitView technology, continuing the automaker’s tradition of technological innovation.

SplitView technology is the result of a partnership between Mercedes-Benz and Bosch, and it uses different viewing angles to display two different programs on one screen at the same time. This technology enables a scenario, for example, where the driver is looking at navigation information and the front passenger is watching a movie — and they’re both looking at the same screen. In this scenario, the passenger could be using headphones so as not to disturb the driver of the vehicle. It’s also worth noting that the system features a single mode that can allow the driver and passenger to see the same content on the screen.

This is all made possible thanks to a backlit color TFT-LCD screen and a special mask that’s built into the display. The images for the driver and passenger are shown simultaneously, but they’re displayed on adjacent pixel columns — the aforementioned mask built into the screen ensures that viewers to either side see every second pixel, enabling a different image to be viewed by people on the right and the left.

The SplitView screen doesn’t take up any more space than a standard in-dash monitor. Not only does this technology eliminate the need to add a second screen to a vehicle, but it will likely lead to other innovative uses of this technology in the future.

While the E-Class will be the first model to get SplitView technology, the rest of the Mercedes-Benz lineup is certainly feature-rich enough to satisfy even the most discerning drivers. Those who wish to see everything that these vehicles have to offer, or who want to learn about future innovations from the esteemed luxury automaker, should visit Mercedes-Benz of Hoffman Estates at 1000 West Golf Road (http://www.mercedeshoffman.com/dealership/directions.htm) in Hoffman Estates, IL.
