Lydecker Diaz Associate Schuyler Smith Selected for the 2013 Florida Bar Leadership Academy

MIAMI - May 15, 2013 - PRLog -- The Florida Bar Leadership Academy has selected Schuyler Smith, Associate at Lydecker Diaz, as part of the 2013Florida Bar Leadership Academy inaugural class. The Florida Bar Leadership Academy is a multi-session training program designed to assist a diverse and inclusive group of lawyers in becoming better leaders within their profession.

As a 2013-2014 Academy Fellow, Ms. Smithwill join a select group of attorneys from around the state and be provided the opportunity to network, interact, collaborate, and build relationships with state and national bar leaders, while developing and enhancing her leadership skills. During their one year term, Academy Fellows follow a curriculum tailored to enhance their professional development, knowledge base and experience, including attending Bar events and special educational programs.

As an Associate at Lydecker Diaz, Ms. Smith concentrates her practice in the areas of Commercial Litigation, Directors and Officers Liability Defense, Professional Liability Defense, and Labor and Employment Litigation. Prior to joining Lydecker Diaz, Ms. Smith was a trial attorney for the State of Florida Department of Children and Families where she prosecuted parents who abused, abandoned, or neglected their children, and litigated dependency and termination of parental rights cases.

Ms. Smith is actively involved in various voluntary bar associations including the Dade County Bar Young Lawyer Section where she serves on the Board of Directors, and the Caribbean Bar Association, where she currently serves as President. Since March 2011, Ms. Smith was elected to serve on the Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division Board of Governors as a representative for the 11th Judicial Circuit.

Ms. Smith obtained her Juris Doctorate from St. Thomas University School of Law in 2009 and her Bachelor of Science in Political Science, with honors, from the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica in 2006.
