June 1, 2013 - PRLog -- (SAVANNAH, GA) A team of artists began work today on a 75-ton sand sculpture in the center court of the Savannah Mall. Work on the sculpture, which will feature a summer animal theme and will incorporate some of the animals from the mall’s double-decker carousel, will continue through Thursday, May 30. The public is invited to come see the work in progress.

The Savannah Mall will host several special activities in conjunction with the unveiling of the sand sculpture. Oatland Island Wildlife Center, the Savannah Mall’s community partner, will host a special exhibit, also located in the center court, that will feature whale bones and other educational items. In addition, representatives from Oatland Island will bring special animal visitors to the mall on Saturday, June 22 and Saturday, July 13.

“We’re very excited about the new things going on at the Savannah Mall and the fact that they’re incorporating education into these activities,” said Heather Merbs, director of the Oatland Island Wildlife Center. “We’re extremely pleased that the Savannah Mall wanted to include us, and we appreciate their support of us. We’re looking forward to an ongoing relationship with the Savannah Mall.”
