LAGRANGEVILLE, N.Y. - June 6, 2013 - PRLog -- Despite the fact that the Dutchess County area has multiple Jiu-Jitsu schools, most of them are lacking in diversity.  Most martial artists are unaware that Dutchess County BJJ is an art with two different sub-categories which are the Gi and No-gi styles of grappling.  Most schools focus on one to the detriment of the other and as such their students only become proficient in one.  No gi classes have students wear rash guards and faster paced movements are emphasized as well as techniques which do not involve any grips involving clothing.  Gi classes however use a kimono and the majority of techniques and performed at a slower pace.  Many schools only teach one style, but Precision MMA’s Dutchess County Jiu Jitsu program focuses equally on both.

Being the home country of Jiu-Jitsu, Brazil has often set the standard for how the art of Jiu-Jitsu should be approached in America and the rest of the world.  In general, Brazilians tend to focus almost entirely on gi training which is often set at a slower pace than no-gi training and involves multiple grips, such as sleeve, elbow seam, pants, belt and collar grips.  Many schools in Dutchess County follow this example and therefore their students do not fare well in no-gi divisions in tournaments or in casual no-gi training because the pace is faster and they cannot use the grips which they have been dependent on for so long.  They also have to deal with the sweat factor which makes maintaining different grips more difficult.  Precision MMA in Dutchess County has an excellent no-gi and submission grappling program for Jiu Jitsu which also includes many wrestlers so when our students enter no-gi competitions we are used to these factors and usually do quite well.

Dutchess County’s Jiu Jitsu Program at Precision MMA also has intensive Gi classes and so we churn out competitors who are extremely adept at this style.  Having Judo as a part of our Gi syllabus enables our students to have familiarity with the techniques and strategies utilized by Judokas, and we are also up on all the newest gi tactics being developed by the Brazilian champions.  Our Dutchess County Jiu-Jitsu students are every bit as prepared to deal with the different grips and chokes their opponents might throw at them in a gi competition as they are in submission grappling.  We also teach techniques which cross over to both styles equally well so it is hard for our opponents to get a beat on us as far as knowing what techniques we might use to defeat them.  We are so varied in our approach that we are unpredictable jacks-of-all-trades and this makes us dangerous for our opponents in a competition setting.

If you are interested in learning the martial art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu you should be training both with and without the gi in order to fully understand the complexity of this beautiful style.  Don’t be one-dimensional.  Come to Precision MMA for 30 days of both Gi and No-Gi training and be a true Jiu-Jitsuka.  Give us a call at 845-392-8495 or drop in at 1097 Route 55, Lagrangeville, NY 12540
