SALT LAKE CITY - June 23, 2013 - PRLog -- Fixing things makes sense. It’s more economical and better for the environment than purchasing new goods. However, paying someone to repair items can cost almost as much as replacing it. eReplacementParts.com, a company specializing in providing original equipment manufacturer parts and repair tutorials, encourages consumers to repair their own household items, and illustrates how easy it is with its latest YouTube video, “Fixing Things Makes Sense: Even a Child Can Do It!”

The video follows eight year-old Aspen Gardner as she successfully repairs a KitchenAid stand mixer that no longer spins.

“People can get overwhelmed with the thought of repairing everyday household items,” said David Fairbanks, CEO of eReplacementParts.com.  “They’re afraid it’s too complicated, that they might mess it up even more. We wanted to show people just how easy the repair process is.”

In the video, Gardner is seen taking the KitchenAid mixer apart and replacing a gear within the small appliance.

“Aspen simply watched the KitchenAid mixer repair tutorial on the eReplacementParts.com YouTube channel and was able to perform the repair all by herself,” Fairbanks said. “She did a great job. If she can do it, I’m confident anybody can do it.”

The KitchenAid part used in the video cost $15. Taking it to a repair center would have cost $75 or more.

“DIY repairs are definitely the more economical option,” said Fairbanks. “I would only bring a machine to a repair shop after I attempted the repair myself. Nine times out of ten, you’re going to be able to fix it yourself.”

The video concludes with Gardner observing how simple the repair is.

“Fixing the mixer was really easy,” said Gardner. “The only part I didn’t like was the grease.”
