LOS ANGELES - June 24, 2013 - PRLog -- The National Association of Minority Contractors of Southern California (NAMCSC) has been recognized as "Best in Nation" by the National Chapter of the organization, during the 44th Annual National Conference held recently at the  Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, California. "We are excited to see our commitment to the minority contractor community recognized by the national chapter," said Sharon Coleman, President of Coleman Construction and Vice President of the Southern California Chapter and Co-Chair of the National Conference. The honor is bestowed upon the chapter that has consistently executed excellence as a leader in achieving measureable success by addressing the challenges and opportunities faced by minority-owned businesses in the construction industry.  The Southern California Chapter, in friendly competition with 19 NAMC chapters across the country, was recognized for  innovative approaches to meeting the needs of members as well as their strong collaboration with community based organizations located in Los Angeles.   The resourceful, forward-leaning Board of Directors of the organization has been on a laser-focused path throughout 2013 to provide access, advocacy, training and leadership to the minority contracting community.  Recognized for their provocative educational series entitled, "Teaming: Leveraging Big Brother Alliances for Breaking into New Markets," as well as strong advocacy through strategic relationships with the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, the Black Business Association of Los Angeles, the National Minority Supplier Development Council, the Small Business Administration and the Minority Business Development Agency, among others, the Southern California Chapter of NAMC has been focused on strategically identifying and addressing the needs of local chapter members.

The Best in Nation Award recognizes the Southern California Chapter for  exemplary efforts in the development and execution of quality, meaningful programs that facilitate business growth of member firms through infrastructure development, teaming and construction contracts. Ted Booker, Business Manager for the organization feels strongly about how the Chapter is executing it's mission, "It has been a pleasure to work with a group of professionals who are industry innovators. Their hard work and perseverance is leading the way for the National Chapter and other commercial trade organizations."

Rick Moore, Director of Diversity for Swinerton Builders, which is a Major Corporate Partner of the Southern California Chapter, was instrumental in encouraging the Southern California Chapter to record their efforts and monitor metrics associated with the Teaming Series. "The Southern California Chapter put in the hard work and this award was well deserved.

"The increase in the number of members is a testament to the hard work, dedication and executive level support of NAMC's mission and vision by our Major Corporate Partners and Community Based Organizations," said Leonard Lumas, President of the Southern California Chapter. "We specifically thank Clark Construction, Swinerton, URS, and Turner Construction for their strong and continuous support of the Teaming, and other educational programs offered by the Southern California Chapter.  Beverly Kuykendall, a member of the  NAMCSC Board of Directors and the Vice President of Vertical Markets for AMD Industrial a national warehousing and logistics firm, appreciates this national honor.  "The NAMCSC Board firmly believes in developing solid business models. This translates to minority firms offering a solid return-on-investment through teaming with larger companies, an incremental increase in market share by minority firms bringing relationships and opportunities to the table that would not be possible without them and by offering a strategic market advantage that differentiates them from competitors.  This is the goal of the National Association of Minority Contractors of Southern California.
