First Time Writer Debuts Riveting Memoir About Her Daughter’s Traumatic Brain Injury and Recovery

Wendy Gaynor recounts the life-altering day and aftermath of her oldest daughter’s traumatic brain injury in her memoir "Mom, I Want To Speak to Marie Antoinette: A Story About Traumatic Brain Injury, Abuse, Death, Divorce, Love & Laughter”

NEW YORK - June 28, 2013 - PRLog -- Wendy Gaynor lived a fast-paced, exciting life in New York City as a successful entrepreneur, business owner and single parent of two daughters. After selling her bakery she wrote a heart wrenching and uplifting memoir about her experience with her eldest daughter's traumatic brain injury. Retelling the devastating event uncovered many of her own travails as a child, wife, mother and entrepreneur. The book is filled with twists and turns, which readers who have experienced any of these hurdles, will surely find solidarity in a shared experience.

The memoir begins in 1995 with a call from the police telling Wendy Gaynor that her 18-year old daughter Ruby had been in an extremely serious car accident.

In this stirring and electrifying narrative, Wendy tells the breathtaking true story of Ruby’s catastrophic injuries and her struggle to survive. The memoir is a powerful and poignant account of one family’s struggle to turn tragedy into triumph, setbacks, turmoil and disharmony into serenity and success. It is Wendy’s love story to her daughters.

The book includes an introduction from Ruby’s primary doctor, Dr. Steven Flanagan, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the New York University School of Medicine, and the Medical Director of the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine at the NYU Langone Medical Center.  A portion of the proceeds of the book will go to both Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City and the Rusk Inst at New York University Hospital where Dr. Flanagan is now the Head of the Department of Rehabilitation.

Praise for the book.
“What a marvelous book! Funny, sad, heart wrenching, satisfying. I could not have liked it more. AND I learned from it. I've already told my friends and family they must read it!”

“Wendy Gaynor's personal story offers insight into how one family survives and eventually triumphs over adversity. In a time of tremendous vulnerability, WG bravely opens her life to the scrutiny of the reader. This compelling story has descriptions that leave the reader barely able to breathe on one page and laughing on the next. This is a must read for anyone facing a challenge and questioning their ability to survive or better yet, succeed.”

“Wendy Gaynor's story tells it to us straight: what life presents and how we need to take the punches, and then give some back. Through tears, laughter, lots of thoughtfulness and love, we learn how one family keeps it together and moves forward in leaps and bounds!”
