By: Geary Gallery work by classical painter and Goldens Bridge, NY resident, Mireille Duchesne. Her “New Work In Classic Oils” exhibit runs July 1-‐31 at the Geary Gallery located at 576 Boston Post Road in Darien. Featured Artist, July: Mireille Duchesne Born in Normandy, France and a resident of Goldens Bridge, NY, Mireille Duchenese fell in love with the Impressionistic art of Claude Monet and others. “Painting is my passion, my life,” Duchenese says. “I am talking with my heart in my paintings.” Duchenese received a formal education at the Lycee of Le Havre and a Masters Degree in French from the University of Rouen, but it was at The Académie des Beaux-‐Arts (Academy of Fine Arts) where she took advanced classes in drawing and painting and found her artistic voice. Upon moving to the U.S., Duchenese studied portraiture with Daniel Greene, classical painting with Richard Pionk and Gregg Kreutz at the Art Students League of New York, as well as with Frank Arcuri at his studio. At the Pastel Society of America, she studied portraiture under Richard Pionk. Duchenese spent 20 years painting on silk, achieving great success creating wearables and paintings that are featured in private collections throughout the U.S. and Europe. However, after developing arthritis, she returned to a medium less demanding on her hands. Today, Duchesne focuses on painting classic oils and pastels in a style inspired by the 18th century French painter, Jean Chardin. Duchesne is a Signature member of the Pastel Society of America, an artist member of Salmagundi Club, and an active member of Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, Mamaroneck Artists Guild and the Kent Art Center. Her work has been shown throughout New York and Connecticut and she has received numerous awards for her pastels and oils from the Pastel Society of America, Salmagundi Club, The Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club and the American Artists Professional League. She is currently teaching at the Katonah Art Center in Katonah, NY.
