Again this year Mae-mavens will enjoy an indoor event (ahhh, air conditioning) • • Where: The Auditorium of Hudson Branch Library, 66 Leroy Street, New York, NY 10014; Tel. (212) 243-6876. Please note: this spacious room is on the lower level and the building is not accessible to wheelchairs. • • When: Monday, 12 August 2013 from 4:00pm — 5:45pm. Attendees can select a seat starting at 3:45pm [open seating]. • • Who: Actress Darlene Violette reads from the novel "Diamond Lil" written by Mae West and published in New York by The Macauley Company in 1932. Ms. Violette, clad in period costume, will sing songs performed by Mae in "She Done Him Wrong" [Paramount Pictures, 1933]. • • Who: NYC historian and dramatist LindaAnn Loschiavo gives an armchair tour of the actual addresses Mae West used in Chinatown, Nolita, and on the Bowery to create the world of Diamond Lil, Gus Jordan, and Captain Cummings; you'll see rare vintage images of downtown Manhattan and learn the real identities of her fictional characters. Ms. Loschiavo, author of "Courting Mae West," will be in period costume. • • Who: Brian McInnis provides delightful live musical accompaniment. • • What else: The ever-popular Mae West Raffle will offer rare prizes once again to a number of lucky attendees.
