PRLog -- Charpy Impact Tester (http://www.prestoquality.com/
instruments-

charpy-impact-
tester-1) is widely used in the industry to evaluate the notch toughness and impact resistance of various materials such as plastics. The equipment is used to determine the amount of energy absorbed by a material when exposed to pressure /during fracture. Thus, it can be applied to study properties such as temperature-
dependent ductile-brittle transition and is a highly beneficial for material testing & analysis. It is also used to compare the impact resistance, toughness and durability of different test samples. The equipment is especially useful in the plastic industry industries for assessing materials used in the construction of pipes and pressure vessels, besides other things.
The Presto Izod Imapct Tester (http://www.prestoquality.com/
instruments-

charpy-impact-
tester-1) consists of a pendulum of standard length and specified mass, which is dropped from a certain specified height to impact a notched specimen of the sample under test. The notched specimen is placed between the two jaws of the equipment and the pendulum is released at 150 degrees. This causes the sample to instantly split and the fractured pieces get scattered on the floor. The impact of the stress on the material can be inferred by reading the strength required to cause the split and comparing the difference in the height of the hammer before and after the fracture. For test results to be accurate, it is necessary that the notch in the test sample should be of regular dimensions and geometry. The size of the sample can also affect results and any inconsistency can greatly affect conclusions and inference. For precision and accuracy we ensure that the equipment strictly adheres to all standard requirements and is manufactured as per ASTM D-56 standard.
This Tester is available in four different capacities – 0-2.71 Joules, 0-5.42 Joules, 0-10.84 Joules and 0-21.68 Joules. The maximum capacity is 21.68 Joules and is primarily designed for impact testing of plastics and metals. The base of the equipment is very sturdy; this ensures accuracy.
Besides plastics the Charpy Impact Test can also be used to determine whether a metal can be classified as either brittle or ductile. A brittle metal will absorb a small amount of energy when exposed o the impact while a tough ductile metal absorbs a large amount of energy.
The equipment gives highly accurate and reliable results. The exterior is powder coated for providing durability and aesthetic appeal. It comes complete with a calibration certificate, instruction manual and conformance certificate by NABL approved labs.
