My Business Matches™ Executes Matchmaker for Hurricane Sandy Small Business Recovery Event

My Business Matches™ online business matchmaking solution executed the business matchmaking portion for the Small Business Administration’s “Hurricane Sandy Small Business Recovery & Matchmaker” on August 7, 2013 in Newark, NJ at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

The business matchmaker brought 34 Federal and corporate buyers to meet with certified suppliers and discuss potential contract opportunities.  This matchmaker was the first of its kind in the region since the disaster.

Over 600 participants registered for the event and more than 475 meetings were conducted during the matchmaker. Many diverse businesses were represented at the event including veteran, minority and women owned businesses.

One of the best ways to achieve that growth is by plugging into the supply chains of large corporations and opportunities with the federal government.  And that is what business matchmaking does. It gives small businesses the right resources, the right opportunities and the right connections. It is an invaluable resource and tool for small businesses,” said John Shoraka, Associate Administrator, Government Contracting and Business Development, U.S. Small Business Administration. 

“I attended this event and was touched by the stories on how Sandy affected local business.  Even with all the challenges from the Hurricane, the only thing that these businesses wanted was a real opportunity to meet with viable contractors and buyers.  No one expected a hand out.  The matchmaking session was above capacity as well as the workshops and panels.  These types of events do help the local economy not just by providing opportunities but by engaging and educating.  It sends a strong message that ‘We are here for you’ ”, said Jeff Vigil, President & CEO of My Business Matches™.
