Miller YMCA Afterschool Homework Club Offered at Three Newbury Park Schools

NEWBURY PARK, Calif. - Aug. 29, 2013 - PRLog -- Newbury Park, Calif.—The Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park will be operating afterschool homework clubs at three Newbury Park elementary schools and at the Y during the new school year.

         YMCA homework clubs will be at Banyan Elementary School on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:35 p.m. to 3:35 p.m., Cypress Elementary School on Tuesdays from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 2:40 p.m. to 3:40 p.m. and Sycamore Canyon Middle School on Tuesdays from 2:05 p.m. to 3:05 p.m. and Thursdays from 3:08 p.m. to 4:08 p.m. Tutoring will be available at the Miller Y (320 Via Las Brisas, Newbury Park) on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

         “Elementary school clubs meet on campus directly after school is out,” says Julie McConville, Miller Y’s youth development director. “We have a low one to six tutor-student ratio. Besides working on homework, our clubs support building student’s self-confidence and focusing on character development and leadership skills. Because homework is completed right after school, families have their evenings free to enjoy each other.”

         Club fees are $80 per month for YMCA members and $95 for nonmembers. Financial assistance is available. For more information, call the Miller YMCA at 805-480-0309.
