The Jewel of the Nile: Fact or Fiction?

Sept. 5, 2013 - PRLog -- The highly successful movie made us all wonder if there really is an infamous Jewel of the Nile. There are many gemstones and jewelry that have exciting stories behind them and the effect they've had on lives they’ve passed through. Tales of murder and deceit, double crosses and theft all make the infamous gemstones more valuable than their worth. There are just as many stories out there, however, of jewels rumored to exist that have only been lost to history. These are the stories that really fire up the imagination. (If they didn’t, nobody would have gone to see the Indiana Jones movies.) One such story that people always talk about is the Jewel of the Nile. Everybody has heard of it but does it really exist? First of all, it carries a name that certainly captures the imagination. It combines a faraway place that many people consider to be both exotic and dangerous with one of the few words that doesn’t need explanation. Everybody stops when they hear about a mysterious jewel, if only because they know what it looks like in their mind and how much they too would like to have it. With those two elements alone, surely there has to be some truth out there to back up such a thought.

Some people will tell you that there is no Jewel of the Nile. They will say that it was simply an idea dreamed up by a couple of Hollywood script writers looking to cash in the success of an earlier movie. They will tell you that the only Jewel of the Nile is a character in the movie who helps our heroes escape jail, stop a war and save the day. Perhaps this is true. Perhaps it really is just imagination. Or perhaps these people simply don’t have the courage to find out the truth.
