General Motors Donates Four Vehicles to Cerritos College Automotive Technology Program

General Motors (GM) donated four vehicles to the Cerritos College Automotive Technology program. The vehicles will be used for educational purposes.

NORWALK, Calif. - Sept. 5, 2013 - PRLog -- The vehicles ensure that students will have the opportunity to work on vehicles that they will see when working at a dealership.

Cerritos College Automotive Technology Program offers certificates, degrees and special programs in automotive repair, collision repair, alternative fuels, smog training, advanced transportation technology and automotive management.

Cerritos College Automotive Technology Program also offers a nationally authorized technician program for GM. The GM Automotive Service Educational Program (ASEP) program prepares students for the workforce by providing classroom and hands-on instruction as well paid on-the-job training.

GM donated a 2013 Cadillac ATS, 2013 Dodge Dart, and two 2008 Saturn Outlook’s. The vehicles will be part of Cerritos College’s General Motors training. Students will be able to work on the vehicle during the hands-on portion of the classes.

"The 2013 Cadillac ATS is officially our first vehicle donation that has General Motor’s global electrical architecture. This architecture is diagnosed using the most advanced diagnostic equipment using a PC based software and a Wi-Fi interface that enables a technician to communicate with the vehicle,” said Cerritos College Automotive Instructor, Joe Mulleary.  We can now offer this training to our ASEP students, which will enhance their hands-on learning and provide knowledge they can apply while working at the dealership.”

The GM ASEP program is a two-year automotive program designed to upgrade the technical competency and professionalism of the dealership technician. The curriculum is designed by General Motors and Cerritos College, and leads to an Associate Degree. The program involves not only attending classroom lecture and laboratory on GM products at Cerritos, but also requires the student to work at a General Motors dealership. Since the student earns while he/she learns, a considerable portion of the costs involved in the program is offset.

The next GM program at Cerritos College starts in 2014. To find out how to apply for the GM program, visit: http://cms.cerritos.edu/auto/asep.htm
