Great Country Farms kicks off 20th annual Pumpkin Harvest Festival 9/28

LEESBURG, Va. - Sept. 16, 2013 - PRLog -- Bluemont, VA – Join three generations of family farmers to celebrate 20 years of sustainable agriculture and fun. The Fall Pumpkin Harvest Festival (http://www.greatcountryfarms.com/index.php/event-calendar/annual-events/fall-harvest-festival.html) features the Farm’s unique attractions and special events through October 31.  The festivities commence with the arrival of the Pumpkin Princess in her Cinderella Coach to open Camelot Weekend on 9/28. Visitors can wear their best medieval gear and kids can test their jousting skills on wooden “horses”. P-Rex the Pumpkin Munchin’ dinosaur roars into action on weekends as well as the Farm’s famous “Oinkintucky Derby” pig races. Hedge your fantasy football results by tracking the NFL themed ‘swine line’ contests at 12:30pm Tuesday - Friday.  Daily events include the kid sized corn maze, tractor rides to the U-Pick pumpkin fields, Cow Pie Putt Putt and a 5 acre farm style playground. Kids who have never seen a live pumpkin patch will love searching through foot high vines to find their perfect golden gourds. Each weekend has a special theme such as the carving weekend October 19 where all can learn artistic tips to create the best jack o lantern on their blocks.

Great Country Farms is owned by the Zurschmeide family which has over 14 members working in their diverse operations of farming, special events, and wine making at adjacent Bluemont Vineyard who offers a Free Farm Special wine tasting with proof of admission from Great Country Farms. Their community supported agriculture program (CSA) has grown into one of the largest in America and partners with local organizations to promote sustainable farming. The Farm’s Market is open daily and carries locally produced meat and dairy products as well as pre-picked produce and other hand crafted foods and decorations from local sources. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the many friends and colleagues who have shared their journey and have enabled them to celebrate 20 years in the community.
