Canadian, James Anthony Inducted As Master Blues Artist In The Blues Hall Of Fame USAThe Burlington, Ontario Bluesman was awarded the honor during a gala event on Sunday September 22, 2013 in Clinton Township, Michigan. Still active in the blues, jazz, and roots music community James performed along with the other talented recipients, including Sir Mack Rice who wrote Mustang Sally.
James grew up on Renforth Drive in Etobicoke, Ontario and went to school at Sir Adam Beck, Eatonville, Bloordale, Silverthorne and Burnhamthorpe Collegiate. Throughout his career he has been a most sought after sideman. His first Road experience was with "Reggae star" Jay Douglas and then the last version of Edward Bear in 1974. In 1980 his band Mondo Combo (on RCA engineered in part by Daniel Lanois) played Massey Hall and played back to back with, Howling Wolf, Albert King at the now legendary El Mocambo and the Colonial Tavern in Toronto. As a Frontman and member of LuLu's house band "Kats" James worked with over 150 Rock & Roll Legends including, Sam & Dave, Gary U.S. Bonds, Frankie Ford, Paul Revere and the Raiders (Mark Lyndsay), The New Mamas and the Papas with Denny Doherty, Sha Na Na, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Ohio Players, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, Junior Walker, Rare Earth, Johnny Preston, Ben E. King, Chubby Checker, Bobby Cortolla, Peter Noone (Herman's Hermits), The Drifters, The Coasters, The Platters and Brian Hyland. He has shared the stage with many R&B stars including Big Mama Thornton, Johnnie Johnson (Chuck Berry), Eddie Kirkland, Big Moose Walker, Harrison Kennedy, B. B. King's Allstars, Willie Big Eyes Smith, Rick James, Kris St. Louis, Sweet Blindness, Lazy Lester, Eugene Smith, Danny B, Dutch Mason, Elvin Bishop and opened for a who's who of R&B legends including Bobby Bland, Koko Taylor, Levon Helm, The Cate Brothers, BB King, Canned Heat, Eric Burdon, Ten Years After, James Cotton, Jimmie Vaughn, Mick Taylor (Rolling Stones), Dr. John, Dave Mason, Sonny Rhodes, Pat Travers and John Mayall. James has also performed for 2 of Canada's Prime Ministers: the Honorable Pierre Trudeau; and John Turner. Now in 2013 he owns Sound Investments Recording Studio in Burlington Ontario and is enjoying the success of his recent CD On The Edge CD & 'Room For Me," a follow up to "All Spruced Up," "The Blue Side of," "Soul Shoes," "Play Something You Know" and "Nite School." As a session musician, producer, and arranger James writes for and produces other artists, jingles and film scores and performs at blues festivals.
