By: Limeforge Ltd. Philip McAleese, the lead engineer says, “My dream was to create a light that could be bright when you need it. I saw more and more commuters fitting bright off-road lights to their bikes in the quest to be seen. I was tired of not being seen too, but I knew there had to be a better way”. Philip turned to his background in electronic and software engineering to find the solution. He packed various sensors and a powerful microcontroller into a tiny light, giving it situational awareness. It uses its power only when it needs to, giving it two real advantages. Firstly, it’s small and powerful and doesn’t require an external battery pack. Secondly, it targets when you need to be seen, commanding attention when you need it most. See.Sense. uses a Fresnel lens, more commonly found in lighthouses, but rather than focus the light, it spreads it out. Philip says, “this enables the light to be really bright without dazzling drivers. But more importantly, it’s much more visible from the side than any other light I have tested”. Philip worked with hundreds of cyclists over two years to refine the product to what we see today. It has now launched on the Kickstarter website at http://www.kickstarter.com/ Limeforge Ltd (trading as See Sense) is one of a select group of companies participating in Invest Northern Ireland’s ‘Propel Programme’, designed to help high calibre entrepreneurs launch businesses with export potential. The company was also selected as a Regional Finalist in InterTrade Ireland’s Seedcorn Investor Readiness Competition.
