Follow on Google News | Tafiti Institute launches “Yes, We Read” CampaignBy: Tafiti Institute Tafiti Institute is a think tank based in Willingboro, New Jersey that provides consultation, research, and cultural-centered community outreach services. The “Yes, We Read” initiative is a three segment model to encourage more reading among African descent males, African descent families and African descent communities via outreach services. Baaki Tafiti Bell, Founder and Executive Director, shared the impetus of Tafiti Institute is to provide tools and resources to advance cultural awareness and inspire social progression. In addition, he stated the purpose is to make available research and consultation services that provide a framework for enrichment of African descent people in America. Mr. Bell stated the Institute research focuses on societal variables of education, poverty, employment, politics, housing, behavior, racism and discrimination and the relationship to people of African descent and society in general. In a recent collaboration with the New Jersey Fatherhood Initiative representative of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Aula Sumbry—the Tafiti Institute is promoting the “Yes, We Read” model to chapters of Omega in New Jersey, and other agencies. The collaboration objective is to encourage the chapters and other organizations to incorporate the model into their social action program and promote reading. The initiative expected outcome is father and child bonding, improved collective reading, as well as enhanced critical-thinking skills.
