Follow on Google News | What To Do While You're In Austin For F1Austin is an eclectic and diverse city. Do not make the mistake of not getting to experience Austin while you are in town for the race, below is a great list of things to do to get you started exploring Texas' state capital.
By: Austin Short Term No matter how long your are kicking your boots around our great city here are some attractions we suggest to soak in and enjoy while you are here for the races: 1. Live Music There is a reason Austin is known as the “Live Music Capital of The World,” and while you are here for your stay I am sure it would be hard to miss the reasons. Wether it is a local musician at a famous dive bar or a full week long music festival, live music is everywhere. Here is a quick list of a few goings on in the music department during Formula 1 weekend: • Sting Performing at ACL Live at Moody Theatre presented by COTA (Circuit of the Americas) Saturday, November 16th at 9:30PM • The Official Infiniti Red Bull Racing After Party Featuring AWOLNATION Sunday, November 17th Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theatre • Asleep at the Wheel’s Ray Benson and his band take you on a journey deep in the roots of Texas music featuring performances by Robert Earl Keen, Marcia Ball, Rick Trevino and Carolyn Wonderland Friday, November 15th at 8:30PM Austin City Limits Live at Moody Theatre 2. Outdoor Experiences There is a lot of great natural beauty in and around Austin. The great Hill Country of the state can be soaked in a short drive East on Hwy 71. Lake Travis is also out on 71 East and the drive is breathtaking. Stay closer to the races with a trip to Mt. Bonnel where you can get spectacular views of the city at the highest peak in Austin at 775 feet. A short fairly easy hike is all it takes to enjoy. Zilker Park is a famous and great place to get away without actually being away. The park is located in Downtown and is host to festivals throughout the year, but is even more notoriously known for its Barton Spring Public Pool, fed by the natural spring and is a content refreshing temperature of around 70 degrees! • Afternoon in the Garden: “Nature Art” Come explore all the colors and shapes at the Zilker Botanical Garden during this time of seasonal change! Create a sun print with nature objects and go on a color hunt with your very own color wheel and map. Time: 12 to 4 pm Sunday, November 17th Zilker Botanical Gardens 3. Crazy Good Restaurants Now food can be in the eye of the beholder, but here make sure your eyes match your stomach because the plethora of delicious eats will get your waste band stretching! Festivals of All Kinds Austin is home to many festivals, celebrating music, arts, foods, common interests, etc. During Formula 1 weekend enjoy one of these to colorful festivals: • 6th Annual Chocolate Festival Saturday, November 16th and Sunday, November 17th Norris Conference Center • Fermata Festival The Southwest Post-Rock Collective presents its first major event! A Post-Rock focused mini-festival with 10 bands from throughout the Southwest region! Come on out, bring some friends for an all-day event bringing the very best of the Southwest region into one venue for the first time ever! Saturday, November 16th at 4:00PM The Scoot Inn 5. Thriving Downtown Nightlife The popular 6th St is flooded with bars, pool halls, music venues and restaurants to entertain for hours on end.
