WINTER PARK, Fla. - Nov. 21, 2013 - PRLog -- Rodney Kincaid is still a kid a heart.

He still enjoys building things, even at 81, and he has no intention of stopping anytime soon.

The “energizer” builder is still going strong – and so is his Winter Park general contracting and construction management company, Kincaid Construction Company, which will celebrate its 50th year anniversary next month (December 19).

Finding a company in the competitive construction industry still in business after 50 years is rare, indeed. Finding someone as old as Kincaid still standing at the wheel is rarer still.

That’s a testament to the passion that burns within and fuels him.

“I’m not sure how many people my age are still active in the workplace but I’m glad to be one of them,” says Kincaid. “My goal is to continue working another five years or so, than I’ll think about taking it easy.”

Kincaid Construction Company may not be the biggest general contractor in Central Florida, or the oldest. It has, however, been one of the more active companies over the past five decades, carving out a successful niche in small- to mid-sized commercial and industrial projects valued between $1 million and $5 million.

Since its inception in 1963, Kincaid Construction has built nearly 150 different commercial projects ranging from churches and office buildings to automobile dealerships and restaurants to schools and banks. Collectively, those facilities represent more than 675,000 square-feet of commercial and industrial space and nearly $30 million in pre-inflation construction costs.

Although the company has the capabilities to build throughout the state, most of its building efforts have centered on the Metro Orlando market, primarily Orange, Seminole, Lake and Volusia counties, with most of its activity in Winter Park and Orlando, says Kincaid.

“We have built commercial facilities as far away as Jacksonville but felt there was and continues to be a lot of work to keep us busy right here in Central Florida,” says Kincaid.

Kincaid takes pride in knowing that his company has had a hand in shaping and building the local business landscape. His company’s construction efforts have been linked with some of the area’s biggest and most recognizable names: Rollins College; Edyth Bush Civic Theater; YMCA; the Morse Museum of American Art; Orlando Museum of Art; Loch Haven Art Center; Harper’s Tavern & Grille; and the First United Methodist Church.

His company also has built projects for a number of different industry giants such as Hewlett Packard, Firestone, Goodyear, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Florida Hospital and Southland Corporation, and was responsible for building Wekiva Elementary School and the Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Orlando, as well as several well-known auto dealerships, including Orlando Infiniti and Mullinax Ford in Apopka.

Kincaid is often asked about his very first construction project. He remembers it as if it were yesterday.

“It was a combination 7-11 and coin laundry on Edgewater Drive and Shady Lane in College Park,” he says. “It was built in 1964. It was 5,000 square feet and the construction budget was $36,950.

“And, yes, the building is still doing business today.”

Kincaid is satisfied with the growth and success Kincaid Construction has achieved over the past 50 years but feels the company’s most productive years remain in front.

“We’ve accomplished a lot over the years and over that time had an opportunity to work in concert with many outstanding architects and community leaders with one common goal of enhancing the community,” he says. “But even after all this time, we feel as a company we’re still learning and still scratching to reach our potential.

“And that’s what motivates me to get up and go to work each day.”
