Join us for the 2nd Annual Emmanuel Baptist Church Holiday Jazz Vespers on December 29, 2013 featuring the Eric Person Big Band, a 11-piece jazz orchestra ensemble.
By: Emmanuel Baptist Church The recurrent theme of the Jazz Vespers is: “Experience the Presence of God through the Sounds of Jazz.” This upcoming Jazz Vespers features the Eric Person Big Band. The band will be performing pieces from Eric Person's latest release, Thoughts of God. Eric Person is best known from his wide-ranging sideman work with Dave Holland, Chico Hamilton, and the World Saxophone Quartet. Last year, the 1st Annual Holiday Jazz Vespers was packed with jazz enthusiasts of all ages, and featured Jazz NEA Master, Jimmy Heath. This year, Emmanuel Baptist Church expects a large and festive crowd once again, and will be adding a few special holiday embellishments. The Eric Person Big Band, with eleven pieces, is bigger than any ensemble featured before, at Jazz Vespers. Currently in its second year, the Jazz Vespers series has built a following of jazz lovers around New York City and Brooklyn, and continues to secure well-respected jazz musicians that bring an unmistakable feeling of celebration for God, and the jazz art form. Jazz Vespers is more than just a performance, it is an experience. As one past attendee remarked, “I enjoy and look forward to Jazz Vespers! It is an amazing, spiritual, and, musical mixture. Praise God for Jazz!” Emmanuel Baptist Church’s Jazz Vespers performances are typically held on 5th Sundays, with special editions added occasionally.
