Follow on Google News | Cerritos College Offers Free Class for High School Students for Spring 2014The Cerritos College Technology Division received a grant to offer a class for current juniors and seniors high school students. The class available for Spring 2014 is Machine Tool Technology (MTT) 100 Introduction to Machine Tool Technology.
The MTT 100 class begins Saturday, January 18, 2014. It is a 16 week class taking place once a week on Saturdays from 8.30 to 12.30 and finishing on May 17th. The class will cover the basics of running a lathe, a mill, a drill press, reading blueprints and getting an overall knowledge of machine tool technology. The class is free, Students can: enroll for free, earn two college credits transferable to CSU schools, and earn an industry recognized certification. Students will be able to take the NIMS (National Institute of Metalworking Skills) certification exam for drill presses for free. If they pass this test, they will receive a free robot and programming kit. “Through the application of skills learned at school, students are familiarized to college at a younger age. This builds their confidence proves to them that college is an attainable goal. This class opens up opportunities for students to pursue and successfully complete post-secondary degrees and industry valued certifications, while increasing student engagement and achievement, said Nick Real, Dean of the Technology Division at Cerritos College.” ENROLL IN THE CLASS: If you are interested, please email Nick Real at yreal@cerritos.edu.
