By: Rated SR Socially Relevant Film Festival New York Amy Goodman, author and host of the internationally acclaimed independent news program Democracy Now! will present a keynote address on the role that socially relevant films play in fostering change on Tuesday, March 18th. The Rated SR Social Justice Award will be presented to one of the five contending festival films: Coal Rush, Control, Destiny's Bridge, Forward 13: Waking up the American Dream, The Throwaways. Spotlight screenings include: Opening Night Selection Mamarosh, directed by Momcilo Mrdakovic Director Q&A following screening Spotlight on Human Loss: USC Shoah Foundation films The Lost Children of Berlin, directed by Elizabeth McIntyre Narrated by Anthony Hopkins Reclaiming their childhood: fifty Holocaust survivors reunite. I Remember, directed by Andrzej Wajda (Katyn) The story of four survivors who were either helped or betrayed by their Polish neighbors. Spotlight on Meditation: Meditation, Creativity, Peace, by The David Lynch Foundation Q&A with Peter Trivelas, Director of Programs and Teacher at the David Lynch Foundation following screening Spotlight on PTSD: Comedy Warriors - Healing Through Humor directed by John Wager Q&A with director John Wager, co-producer Bernadette Luckett and film subject Joe Kashnow following screening Spotlight on LGBTQ Little Bi Peep directed by Jon Russell Cring and Anna Shields. Director Q&A following screening Spotlight on Immigration The Defector directed by Ann Shin Director Q&A following screening Newly added: six Shorts programs with focuses on subjects such as Disability, Women, Environment, Activism, Child Protection and PTSD round out the festival’s international programming. Founded by award-winning actor, filmmaker and curator Nora Armani, the festival will showcase films with human interest stories and socially relevant themes as a response to the proliferation of violence and violent forms of storytelling.
