In this new book, vintage images show the majestic mountains and rolling hills of Mingo County, with its rich natural resources, including timber, coal, gas and oil. The book contains pictures and information of the most well-known residents, such as the infamous Hatfields and McCoys, and the ordinary residents who exemplify the hard-working American spirit. Author Andrew Chafin culled images from the private collections of friends, family and local residents to create this pictorial history. Chafin states “Due in part to the geography of the region, these folks over time have not been understood by others. They have lived out their lives quietly and not so quietly, but with the same wants and needs as all Americans. This book indentifies the integrity and commitment of these mountain people who have contributed in so many ways to the America of today.” Mingo County allows readers a glimpse into the area’s past and preserves its legacy for future generations.
