Indie Publisher Announces the Top 10 Self-Published Children's Picture Books of 2013

Great children's books the big publishers don't want you to see

SAN DIEGO - March 1, 2014 - PRLog -- Last December, Aviva Gittle, the owner of Aviva Gittle Publishing, decided to create a list of the Top 10 children’s books for 2013. There was one catch: No traditionally published books allowed. She was only interested in self-published authors.

The inspiration for The Gittle List 2013: Top 10 Self-published Children’s Picture Books came from two books that, unfortunately, few have heard of and even fewer have read. “In 2013, I was asked to review several children's stories by self-publishers. There were two books that I could not stop thinking about it. I enjoyed them as much as the classics from ‘legitimate’ publishers.”

Aviva knows firsthand that self-publishers are not always taken seriously. “Come to think of it, before I got into self-publishing, I only recommended the classic children's books. A whole new world of stories has been revealed [to me].” The Gittle List 2013 included books Ms. Gittle had reviewed and submissions from self-published authors from around the world. It went so well, Aviva will do it again for 2014. “This year the list will be completed before the holidays as a gift-buying guide.”

#1 on The Gittle List 2013, Lucy Elliott (Frank the Gentle Viking), was very excited. “Eeeeeeeeee! That's wonderful! Just what I needed to motivate me to tackle my next project.” #5, Nancy O’Neill (Guess What is at the Zoo?), said, “I'm simply ecstatic! I feel so honored to have one of my Guess What? books make The Gittle List.”

Aviva Gittle thinks it’s important for self-published authors to honestly review each other’s work. “What makes me a good judge? I've been a writer since childhood. I self-published six books last year, and I’m a grandmother always looking to buy great books for my grandsons. I'm a prospective buyer of your book. Keep that in mind when you read my reviews.”
