The Ninth Annual Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. National Physician of the Year Awards

NEW YORK - March 5, 2014 - PRLog -- On Monday, March 31, 2014, the Ninth Annual Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. National Physician of the Year Awards will take place at The Pierre Hotel in New York City.  The Awards recognize and honor five exemplary physicians, as well as the many thousands of other excellent physicians practicing in communities throughout the United States. The evening will begin at 6:30 P.M. with a reception, followed by dinner and the awards presentation.

Awards are given to physicians who are nationally recognized leaders and contributors in their specialties.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is awarded to physicians for their lifetime of dedication to research and practice in their respective fields.  This year, the award will be presented to:

·         Victor Fazio, M.D., Chairman Emeritus, Digestive Disease Institute; Department of Colorectal Surgery - Cleveland Clinic

·         Hagop M. Kantarjian, M.D., Professor and Chair, Leukemia - The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center

The Clinical Excellence Award, recognizingphysicians who exemplify excellence in clinical medical practice, will be presented to:

·         Susan B. Bressman, M.D., Alan and Joan Mirken Chair, Departments of Neurology - Mount Sinai Beth Israel, Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and Mount Sinai Roosevelt; Professor of Neurology – Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai

·         Catherine R. deVries, M.D., M.S., Professor of Surgery - University of Utah; Director of the University of Utah Center for Global Surgery – University of Utah Health Care and Primary Children’s Hospital

·         Michael Saag, M.D., Professor of Medicine and Director of the UAB Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) – University of Alabama at Birmingham

The National Health Leadership Award is awarded to individuals for outstanding dedication and work with an organization that has served to heighten the awareness for the need for support and research on that specific cause.  Dr. Mehmet Oz, Host of The Dr. Oz Show, best-selling author and Co-Founder of HealthCorps and Lisa Oz, Host of The Lisa Oz Show, best-selling author and Co-Founder of HealthCorps will receive this year’s National Health Leadership Award.

John K. Castle, Chairman, and John J. Connolly, Ed.D., President and CEO of Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., William Liss-Levinson, Ph.D., Vice President, Chief Strategy & Operations Officer, Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. and Jean Morgan, M.D., Vice President, Chief Medical & Research Officer, Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. will be among the Awards Presenters for the evening.  Dr. Steve Salvatore, host of “Dr. Steve,” Tribune’s nationally syndicated TV show, will be the Master of Ceremonies for the evening.
