April 9, 2014 - PRLog -- For the second year in a row NeedyMeds, a Gloucester-based non-profit, was selected by The NonProfit Times as one of the best non-profits to work for in 2014. Only 50 non-profits out of more than 10,000 submissions in the United States earned this honor.

"We are so excited to have been designated again," said Richard J. Sagall, MD, President of NeedyMeds. "Everyone at NeedyMeds deserves a big 'pat on the back' for contributing to our success as a great place to work."

The award is based on a survey conducted by the Best Companies Group that covered benefits and employment practices. In addition, employees were given an extensive confidential survey covering eight areas of work life.

“Organizations that make the list have been successful in creating unique cultures where employees love to come to work,” said Peter Burke, BCG president. “The leaders of the winning organizations understand their cultural values and they live their cultural values.”

"Each day we help thousands of people who can't afford their medication and healthcare costs. The staff hears of the hardship people experience in their lives every day," said Robin Hoffman, Director of Operations at NeedyMeds. "Working in a supportive, friendly and open work environment makes it easier for these people."

NeedyMeds is an information source listing programs that provide assistance for people unable to afford their medications and healthcare costs. Programs listed provide assistance with medications, living expenses, supplies, and more. In addition, the website lists camps and scholarships based on diagnoses, drug discount coupons and rebates, and over 13,000 free/low cost/sliding scale clinics. NeedyMeds never charges for any of the services it provides to individuals and all access to the information is anonymous.

NeedyMeds recently started HEALfundr, a medical crowdfunding website.

Medical crowdfunding is a way for individuals who have unmanageable medical billing to accept help from family, friends and strangers. HEALfundr simplifies the process of starting and running a campaign. To learn more about it, visit www.healfundr.org.

"We help with every step of the process," said Project Manager Evan O'Connor. "We provide assistance from writing the campaign to maximizing use of social media and spreading the word."

"We are pleased NeedyMeds is at the top of small organizations," said Don Maier, MD, President of the Board of Directors. "There are several reasons for NeedyMeds' employees' satisfaction with their jobs. They are treated with respect, and their input and ideas are valued; they have an open and collegial working environment; there is great flexibility in accommodating their personal needs; and they know that their work is helping others in finding many ways to reduce the cost of their healthcare."
