GIBRALTAR blackout due to explosion at main power station

By: Gibraltar

GIBRALTAR - April 20, 2014 - PRLog -- There are on the ground reports of a power blackout across the rock of Gibraltar which are also effecting telecoms.  Emergency services have been quick to respond as the thick and heavy smoke covered nearby urban areas.

The explosion happened approximately 13.30 CEST which despite a heavy rain storm the fire did not show signs of dampening with winds pushed the smoke directly in-land.   Easter is about new life and new beginnings, with bank holiday around the corner for this coming Monday it has not been a great start on the Rock.

There have been no reported casualties at this time and the immediate area has been undergoing evacuation with reports people maybe stuck in elevators.

With the current drive on the rock to improve health and safety standards, fire safety and emergency planning will no doubt undergo strict review post this incident.

More to follow in the next few hours....
