Follow on Google News | ![]() International Thank You Day June 11 2014On June 11 2014 the World is being asked to stop and say Thank You, show gratitude, appreciation and respect for others.
The “Thank You Campaign” will culminate in World Thank You day on June 11 2014 and every year after. Over coffee one morning the two founders, Geoff Kirkwood and Charles Alder lamented the lack of acknowledgement, appreciation and gratitude many showed towards others who were either just doing their job or who had gone out of their way. They spent months visiting businesses, working with charities and non-profit groups and listened for the sincerity in Thank You if it came at all. Customers in restaurants failed to acknowledge staff attending to them, cashiers failed to say thank you to customers and recipients of charities failed to say thank you. “We felt it was time to do something” they both say. Across the board they heard, “That is so true”, “My boss never says Thank You”, “kids have terrible manners” and so we thought let’s see if we can make a change by focusing on people starting to say it, say it with sincerity and say it more often. Many non-profit organsiations around the world find it hard to attract volunteers, yet the answer may not be that people are all time poor. A recent survey by Volunteers Canada showed that many as 70% of volunteers just wanted a thank you and not a big fancy gala, or event. Maybe the answer here lies in appreciating people. Saying Thank You costs so little but has a profound effect. Now Brisbane City Council has endorsed the campaign and hopes that Brisbane can distinguish itself as a city that appreciates, recognises and thanks as it shows itself off to the world with the G20 and all the worlds media descending in 2014. “We’re excited Brisbane has become our first World Thank You Day city and hope to have over many cities around the world join us”, said Charles Alder. “We hope over the next 12 months that business and the community will come on board and show the world how manners, respect, appreciation and a simple Thank You can make a life long impression”.
