KOCHI, India - July 4, 2014 - PRLog -- Feathersoft has launched Twenty Eight (28), a trick taking card game quite popular in South India especially Kerala where it is known by the name Irupathiyettu. Twenty Eight is the app version of the original card game which is hugely popular among youngsters, and evoking nostalgia among the elders, for most of whom it was a weekly ritual during their college years. The deal, the bidding and play are all re-created beautifully in this free app, capturing the true essence of Irupathiyettu (28). Those who played the original game knows just how addictive and fun this game can be. 28 fans take this game quite seriously employing logic and algorithm in trying to figure out the trump card the opponent is holding, using sound reasoning to outmaneuver their opponents.

Features and how to play: Irupathiyettu (28) comes with awesome visuals and sound effect which is something of a standard for games coming from the Feathersoft stables. Game developers at Feathersoft has ensured not just a smooth gameplay but also successfully brought in the right ambience with the gaming table and color scheme which is evocative of poker tables and casinos with the right sound effect to complete the portrayal.

28 consists of 4 players with 2 players facing each other forming a team. 32 cards from a standard 56 card deck is used to play. There are eight cards in each of the usual "French" suits: hearts, diamonds, clubs and spades. The aim is to win tricks with valuable cards. Jack and Nine being the highest value cards at 3 and 2 points respectively followed by aces and tens at 1 point and K, Q, 8 and 7 with 0 points. The total value of all the cards adds up to 28 (Irupathiyettu) which gives the game its name.

Deal & Bidding: The game proceeds in anti-clockwise direction with the dealer shuffling the cards and cut by the player to his left. Four cards are dealt one at a time to each player. Based on the dealt cards the players bid for the right to choose trumps. Each bid is a number and the highest bidder has to undertake to win in tricks the value in points corresponding to the bid number. The player to the dealer’s right get to bid first and has to choose a value not less than 14. The bidding moves in anti-clockwise direction and the player after the first bidder can either pass the bid or choose a higher bid. The final bidder chooses a trump based on the 4 cards at his disposal which will be kept face down on his table. This card is not made visible to the other players which means the other players will not know which suit is trumps until a player during the course of the game demands for the trump card to be shown.

Once a team bids, the other member of that team cannot increase the bid unless the opposite team changes the bid. But, the same team member can raise the bidding to honors (20 or more). The dealer completes the deal when he gives four more cards to the players so everyone has 8 cards in hand. After everyone gets a look at their cards the bidder gets the option to increase the bid but if he chose to do so then the final bid should be at least 23.

The Play: The player to the right of the dealer leads the first trick. The bidder is not allowed to lead with a trump unless he only has trumps or if the trump suit is exposed. It is customary to lead Jacks if you have them in hand. The opposite team or the partner can ask for the trump card to be shown if they don’t have a card in the suit that is being played. Then the player who asked for the trump has to play a trump card if they have one, else can play with any other suit. Each trick is won by the highest trump in it or in cases where no trumps were played the highest suit that was led wins the trick. The winner of a trick leads to the next.

Scoring: When all the 8 tricks have been played the bidding team requires as many card points as the bid value to win else they lose. The number of game points scored depends on the bid, not on the exact number of points taken in tricks.

The game will end if the opposite team scores more points than the remaining point of the bid from 28.

For bids 19 or less: Gain 1 if won, Lose 2 if lost.

For bids from 20 to 24: Gain 2 if won or Lose 3 if lost.

For bids of 25 or more: Gain 3 if won or Lose 4 if lost.

The 28 card game app is now available in AppStore at  https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/twenty-eight/id878089274?... and is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and optimized for iPhone5. It is also available at Google Play at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.feather... and requires android 3.0 and up.

‘’Feathersoft will soon be launching a Fan site for Twenty Eight where die-hard 28 fans can meet up for discussions, post comments on the game, share images, brag about their victories past and present as-well as air views on anything and everything related to Twenty Eight be it the app or the original game’’- Says George Varghese, Vice President, Feathersoft.
