Celebrate CCHI’s 5th Anniversary by Getting the CoreCHI™ Certification

WASHINGTON - July 15, 2014 - PRLog -- The Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters celebrates its 5^th Anniversary today.  These five years of immense creativity and intense decision-making have changed the status of the healthcare interpreting profession and established it as an equal among other allied health care professions.

In these five years, together, we have defined our profession through the Job Task Analysis.  We have developed the two certification programs: the CoreCHI™ (Core Certification Healthcare Interpreter™), a core professional certification for interpreters of any language, and the CHI™ (Certified Healthcare Interpreter™), a language-specific performance certification, currently available for Arabic, Mandarin and Spanish interpreters.  Both examinations have received a third-party stamp of approval – accreditation from the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).  Continuing Education Accreditation Program has been established to ensure quality of continuing education programs for interpreters.

The Commissioners thank everyone who inspired and volunteered for CCHI, who provided advice, support, and monetary contribution, and who has taken our certification exams.  You have helped create a national professional community of certified healthcare interpreters!  This community is 1,456 certified interpreters strong.  Certified interpreters reside in 42 states, District of Columbia, and Canada.  Over 70% of all certified interpreters come from these top 10 states: California, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Ohio, Texas, Arizona, Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois, and New York (listed here in descending order).

The strength of our profession is in the numbers of certified professionals.  We call on interpreters of all languages to take the first step to becoming certified today!
