New! Bench Scales That Satisfy in Both Precision and Capacity – for an Affordable Price

These scales, namely EK-15KL (15 kg × 0.1 g) and EK-30KL (3 kg/30 kg × 0.1 g/ 1 g), are A&D’s answer to a long-standing request for larger capacity models from current EK-i series users. (The EK-i series of compact balances offers capacities only up to 6 kg for 0.1 g readability, and 12 kg for 1 g readability).

To realize high precision with such larger capacities without a significant increase in cost, A&D utilized their latest load cell weight sensing technology, which was originally developed for their EJ-123/303 compact precision balances released last year (these are A&D’s first 1 mg balances using a load cell as the weight sensor). They also made the size of the weighing pan much larger (300 × 210 mm) for the EK-L series to enable efficient measurements of bulky objects or quantities.

As mentioned above, the EK-L series consists of two models that differ in strengths and suitable applications to match users’ preferences. Specifically, the EK-15KL, the “higher resolution” model, provides 0.1 g readability all the way to the capacity of 15 kg. This model is ideal for use where high precision is required for a wide measurement range, such as for measurements of precious metal blocks.

On the other hand, the EK-30KL, the “larger capacity” model, has the smart range function of 3 kg × 0.1 g and 30 kg × 1 g. That is, the scale interval switches from 0.1 g to 1 g when the display value exceeds 3 kg, but its precision range (3 kg × 0.1 g) can always be restored simply by performing tare.

The EK-30KL is especially useful when the gross weight exceeds 15 kg (the capacity of the EK-15KL), yet 0.1 g readability is necessary to measure the net weight. For example, it is possible to measure with precision the weights of ingredients while adding them into a heavy container, by taring the weight of the container before each ingredient is added. Alternatively, the scale interval can be set to 1 g for the entire measurement range (from 0 to 30 kg) when the precision range is not required.

For the scales to live up to the name of the “EK” brand, many other features that are demanded by today’s market are also included in the EK-L series. For example, their weighing pan is protected from scratches and wear by a stainless steel (SUS430) cover, which is also easy to keep hygienic. The LCD display (22 mm character height) with clear, white backlight ensures visibility for efficient work even in a dimly-lit area.

The weighing unit is switchable between gram, kilogram, ounce, pound, and troy ounce (tael can be added upon request) with a simple key press. Further, functions such as counting mode (for instantly counting a number of small pieces of the same mass value), percent mode (convenient for filling or checking the sample variation as the weight value is displayed as a percentage of a set reference mass), comparator mode (to compare weight values by setting upper and lower limits to make Hi/Go/Lo judgments), and display hold function (for easier reading of display values) will make various kinds of tasks quicker and more accurate.

The EK-L series comes equipped with an RS-232 interface as standard, enabling data output to a PC, printer or other peripheral devices. If necessary, GLP/GMP/GCP/ISO report formats can be chosen for documentation and compliance.

Operation is possible with either the provided AC adapter or optional sealed lead-acid rechargeable battery (approx. 15 hours of charging for 100 hours of operation with backlight off) for portability and use out in the field. An automatic power OFF function is available to avoid wasting power.

Finally, there is a security ring that users can use to wire-lock the scale for prevention of theft when left unattended.
