Each year the Symposium Executive Committee recognizes an individual who has exemplified a strong commitment to California’s maritime transportation industry throughout the course of a distinguished career. As the Founder and Executive Director of the California Marine and Intermodal Transportation System Advisory Council (CALMITSAC), Mr. Fassler-Katz’ Most recently, Mr. Fassler-Katz has focused his attention on developing a California consensus for maritime projects seeking federal recovery funds, as well as preparing a statewide maritime agenda for discussion surrounding new federal transportation funding. “No one else I know has been so passionately engaged for so long in policy analysis and the development of the maritime goods movement industry in California and the Western United States,” said Captain Bruce G. Glark, USCGR (ret). “His passion is infectious and has consistently moved public, private and commercial sector stakeholders toward mutually beneficial decisions enhancing the viability and sustainability of maritime shipping, rail, and highway operations so vital to the continuing economic well being of our state and the country.” As part of the California Maritime Leadership Symposium’s annual tradition, Mr. Fassler-Katz will be formally honored during a special reception among an audience of policymakers, port executives, maritime industry leaders and transportation planners.
