SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Jan. 23, 2015 - PRLog -- The California Maritime Leadership Symposium Executive Committee has announced the selection of Norman Fassler-Katz as the recipient of the 5th Annual Gary L. Gregory Lifetime Achievement Award. Mr. Fassler-Katz will be honored during a special reception held on February 24th, 2015 in the California State Capitol Rotunda for attendees of the 2015 California Maritime Leadership Symposium.

Each year the Symposium Executive Committee recognizes an individual who has exemplified a strong commitment to California’s maritime transportation industry throughout the course of a distinguished career. As the Founder and Executive Director of the California Marine and Intermodal Transportation System Advisory Council (CALMITSAC), Mr. Fassler-Katz’s counsel and administrative management has enabled California’s regional effort to be the acknowledged  "jewel" within the national framework. During his celebrated 15-year career with the California State Legislature, Mr. Fassler-Katz also served the Maritime Transportation System National Advisory Committee created by the Maritime Administration of the Department of Transportation, developed the California Maritime Leadership Symposium (now in its 15th year), chaired California’s hosting of the Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commission, and played a significant role in gaining five California seats on the National Freight Advisory Committee.

Most recently, Mr. Fassler-Katz has focused his attention on developing a California consensus for maritime projects seeking federal recovery funds, as well as preparing a statewide maritime agenda for discussion surrounding new federal transportation funding.

“No one else I know has been so passionately engaged for so long in policy analysis and the development of the maritime goods movement industry in California and the Western United States,” said Captain Bruce G. Glark, USCGR (ret). “His passion is infectious and has consistently moved public, private and commercial sector stakeholders toward mutually beneficial decisions enhancing the viability and sustainability of maritime shipping, rail, and highway operations so vital to the continuing economic well being of our state and the country.”

As part of the California Maritime Leadership Symposium’s annual tradition, Mr. Fassler-Katz will be formally honored during a special reception among an audience of policymakers, port executives, maritime industry leaders and transportation planners.
