BROOKFIELD, Wis. - March 30, 2015 - PRLog -- As public awareness grows of the huge societal costs of domestic violence, a coalition of local businesses is collecting much-needed items for the youngest victims of domestic violence in our communities.

Nine businesses, led by Grounds Maintenance Services and Charlie’s East Coast Hair Designs, are collecting donations for babies and children staying with their mothers at The Women’s Center, Waukesha. The collection begins April 1, with donations scheduled for delivery at The Women’s Center before Mother’s Day, May 10.

Donations sought for babies are diapers, formula and new or gently-used clothing. For young adults, needed items are books (such as Harry Potter titles or The Hunger Games series), movie passes, gift cards for department stores, book stores or electronics merchants, and personal grooming items such as lip gloss and hair products.

Families living in violent homes are often forced to flee without warning, leaving them without basic necessities or any minor luxuries. The Women’s Center (http://twcwaukesha.org/about-us/) shelters these families, providing them safety and comfort. The situation can be especially hard on children, who find their lives uprooted with no healthy distractions or opportunities to “be a kid.”

“Domestic violence sadly is more prevalent than many people realize, and thankfully we have a local resource like The Women’s Center to provide help to affected families,” said Todd Ruedt, owner of Grounds Maintenance Services (http://www.groundsmaintenancewi.com/brookfield-landscaper...). “Our goal as local businesses is to aid the youngest victims in these terrible situations, and help them find hope in their lives.”

Donations can be dropped off at any of these participating businesses in Brookfield and Elm Grove:
