One company aims to change the stats through national “Decide to Drive” campaign

Locally-based electrical contracting company donates $10,000 to end distracted driving
By: Power Design, Inc.

SAINT PETERSBURG, Fla. - June 22, 2015 - PRLog -- At any given daylight moment across America, approximately 660,000 drivers are using cell phones or manipulating electronic devices while driving, keeping their eyes off the road for an average of five seconds each time they text. The National Safety Council brings focus to this epidemic, along with other leading causes of preventable injury and death by recognizing June as National Safety Month.

Staggering numbers unfortunately aren’t enough to prevent distracted or impaired driving, which is why Power Design, Inc., an electrical contractor based out of St. Petersburg, Florida, is urging its employees and the community to take a stand. Power Design introduced the concept of “Power of One,” representing the power of one decision to launch their safe driving campaign called “Decide to Drive.”

“Power of One is about how the decisions we make every day impact us as individuals, impact our families, our friends and the communities we belong to,” said CEO of Power Design, Mitch Permuy. “Join me in making the one decision not to text while driving, the one decision not to email while driving, and the one decision not to drink and drive.”

Decide to Drive sends the message that we should all be continuously making good decisions when getting behind the wheel. Power Design is asking its employees and the community to take the pledge to drive safely, and is partnering with EndDD.org, an organization dedicated to ending distracted driving, by donating $10,000 after the first 1,000 pledges are signed.

“EndDD.org is really excited to partner with Power Design. We are always grateful to spread the message at work places and we anticipate that employees will bring the safe driving message to their families and to those they care about,” said Joel Feldman of EndDD.org.

To help the campaign live beyond its initial launch, Power Design is engaging employees in even more ways. A corporate transportation program will offer safe rides to employees at Power Design’s cost, and information on safe driving apps will be provided. Power Design will additionally be supporting People Against Distracted Driving (PADD) in future campaign efforts, pushing reminder messages out on social media, and offering the pledge to all newly hired employees.

"As mayor, my first and most important job is public safety. Too many people across our nation have lost their lives in the brief moment they or another driver used a cell phone or electronic device. This National Safety Month, join me in calling for every driver in the Sunshine City and America to decide to drive. Let's work together and help save lives. I thank everyone at one of our great St. Petersburg companies, Power Design, Inc., for their generous donation to EndDD.org, and for doing their part to create a safer St. Petersburg," said St. Petersburg Mayor, Rick Kriseman.
