Follow on Google News | Muslims for Progressive Values: Rejoicing the U.S. Supreme Court’s Decision on Marriage EqualityOur love for our LGBTQI siblings causes us to rejoice in today’s decision from the highest court of law in the United States, the U.S. Supreme Court, recognizing and uplifting the constitutional mandate of equality. We are hopeful that over time more of our fellow Muslims may also find meaning in the gender-neutral sura in the holy Qur'an on marriage: “And among the signs of God is this: that God created for you spouses from among yourselves, that you may dwell in peace with them, and God has put love and mercy in your hearts, truly in this are the signs of God for those who reflect.” By making marriage equality the law of the land in the United States of America, the U.S. Supreme Court has recognized the true meaning of the word family, which includes all families. Muslims for Progressive Values recognizes the worth of every human being as endowed by our creator. Seeking to enact justice through word and deed, MPV has worked to create inclusive spaces where LGBTQI Muslims could embrace both their faith and their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. MPV has supported intellectual and spiritual approaches to the intersection of Islam and LGBTQI families. ### Muslims for Progressive Values (MPV) is a 501 (c) (3) founded in 2007. MPV asserts that Islam is inherently progressive, inclusive and egalitarian which is an understanding that informs the ten principles by which the organization is guided. Since its inception, MPV has secured a consultative status at the United Nations and has expanded to include chapters and affiliates in Los Angeles, Washington DC, Atlanta, New York, Columbus, Chicago, Canada, France, Chile, Germany, Australia and Malaysia.
