Follow on Google News | Journey with John Carbis on his 2015: A Phoenix OdysseyBy: The monOrchid “Carbis’ photography pushes the viewer to look deeper at their surroundings and discover the beauty it offers to all willing to look a little closer resulting in fascinating imagery of our great city that shed a new light illuminating what Phoenix truly is all about”, says Shade Projects Curator, Nicole Royse. Experimenting with photography he discovered his love for digital cameras, utilizing in camera multiple exposure rather than photo editing software to create his signature style. With his latest body of work Carbis’ captures the essence of Phoenix through his lens combining vivid colors, unique textures and patterns with silhouettes that represent the city of Phoenix. “My camera allows for either two or three images to be take within succession to combine immediately into a single image”, says the artist who is wishes to “express his individuality by creating something original from my surroundings, finding elements of these images in areas across the city that are not typically considered beautiful”. Carbis is a self taught artist with a childhood fused with skateboarding, a passion for Hip Hop culture that lead him to a career as a DJ. In 2010 marked a major transition to focus all of his creative energy on his artistic pursuits in photography, this was further fueled by his move to photography Downtown Phoenix in 2013. Most recently Carbis had the opportunity to exhibit his artwork for the first time alongside fellow artist Jeff Slim at Creation Station at La Melgosa located in the Grand Avenue Arts District. The Opening Reception for 2015: A Phoenix Odyssey will be held on First Friday, August 7th from 6-10pm with the artist in attendance. The Closing Reception will be held on Third Friday, August 21st from 7-10pm featuring an intimate evening with the artist, amazing artwork, wine and more. 2015: A Phoenix Odyssey will be on display in Bokeh Gallery at the monOrchid from August 7th until August 30th, 2015. The monOrchid is located at 214 E. Roosevelt Street in the heart of Phoenix's downtown Roosevelt Row Arts District. The building is open daily and the exhibition may be viewed during business hours.
